Negotiation is a dispute resolution process whereby parties to a dispute resolve matters by holding discussions and coming to a mutual agreement. Often negotiating parties need a representative or need coaching on how to negotiate effectively with one another.
Conciliation is a dispute resolution process whereby the parties to a dispute agree to utilize the services of a conciliator, who then meets with the parties separately in an attempt to resolve their differences. The conciliator does this by lowering tensions, improving communications, interpreting issues, providing technical assistance, exploring potential solutions and bringing about a negotiated settlement.
